Getting there
Travel to and from the Lake District is not included in the trip I organize. But I am very happy to give you different options to travel to the Lake District.
PLEASE NOTE: if multiple participants travel at the same time to Manchester Airport, I can arrange a transfer from the airport that takes you directly from the airport to Yew Tree Farm. This is not included in the price and the price will depend on the number of people traveling.
The Lake District is located in the north-west of England in the Cumbria district.
You can travel there by car and ferry, train or plane.
Flying to Manchester
From Manchester Airport you can take a direct train to Windermere in the Lake District. (depending on your arrival time, otherwise 1 change at Oxenholme), The train journey takes 2.5 hours. From the station you can take a taxi to Yew Tree Farm in Coniston, which is around a 20-minute journey.
From Londen by train
You can also take the train to London (Eurostar, which arrives at St Pancras in London) or fly to an airport around London. From London you can then take the train north. From London Euston you can reach Windermere in the Lake District after about 3.5 hours, with a change at Oxenholme (Kendal). From the station you can take a taxi to Yew Tree Farm in Coniston, which is about a 20 minute drive.

By Eurotunnel
Another option is to travel by Eurotunnel. You then drive to Calais first where you take the train under the channel to England in 35 minutes. From Folkestone it is about a 6.5 hour drive to Coniston. You can, for example, make a stopover in the beautiful Cotswolds.

By Ferry from the Netherlands to the North of England
The most convenient way to travel to the Lake District is by car. When you travel from the continent you can take the ferry from Rotterdam to Hull (P&O Ferries) and travel by night ferry to Hull in the north-east of England in 12 hours. You leave Rotterdam around 20:30 and arrive in Hull around 7:30 in the morning. From Hull you drive well rested in the morning in about 3.5 hours to Yew Tree Farm in Coniston in the Lake District. This is a relaxed way to travel, you don't have to drive very long distances and you arrive in Northern England well rested. I usually take this ferry myself when I travel to Northern England.
Another ferry service is from the boat from IJmuiden (near Amsterdam) to Newcastle (DFDS), this is also an overnight boat so here too you will arrive well rested in the morning, the crossing takes a little longer, about 16 hours, you leave at 17:30 and arrive the next morning around 9:00. From Newcastle the drive is a little shorter, you drive in about 2.5 hours to Yew Tree Farm in Coniston in the Lake District.
I am happy to help you plan your trip! (Travel costs to and from Yew Tree Farm are not included in the price of this trip and are at your own expense)
If you travel by car: Please note that driving in England is on the left.
PLEASE NOTE: From 1 April 2025, you will be required to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) when travelling to the United Kingdom.
